We are now 'unofficially' famous

We made the front page of our local newspaper with the VBS last week

{I am the one wildly raising my hands on the right of the bottom picture. The girls won the penny offering, so I was very happy I didn't have to eat baby food!}

Here is the write-up with the pictures...because I know you are dying to read it :)

~"Sgt. Punk" is booed by attendees of last week's Vacation Bible School at the New Testament Baptist Church in Brewster. Sgt. Punk and sidekick Pvt. Sassy {that's me!}, portrayed by Cody Humborg and Maggie Waldron, respectively, were thoroughly admonished Wednesday for their un-Christianlike behavior by church Pastor Corey Higdon and his helper, Capt. Braveheart, played by Kali Waldron. Their lesson came from Corinthians: "Evil communications corrupt good manners." The volunteers joined Higdon in teaching children values aligning with the theme of the evening school, "A Good Soldier."~

~Higdon, center stage, announces the girls as the winner of Wednesday night's penny offering. A volunteer each from the boys' group and the girls' group were selected to represent the kids. The loser had to eat a heaping spoonful of sweet potato and zucchini baby food, which carried a highly entertaining gross-out factor for the kids. The evening wrapped with a sermon by Higdon, inspired from the book of Timothy, about encouraging others through one's own pain, patience and steadfastness. The children adjourned afterward for popsicles.~

Please, please, no autographs are necessary.

Now, in our small little town I'm probably going to have to wear sunglasses everywhere I go. That way I don't get mobbed by the crowds...

~ Swimming Wading in the kiddy pool with Braxton

~ Forgetting about baked potatoes in the oven, only to find them two hours later. Let's just say they were very crispy on the outside :)

~ In the parking lot of Walmart talking on the phone, then my phone flying from my fingertips on to the pavement. I'm sure it was funny to watch me fumbling to keep it from falling!

Awesome:

~ A delicious early Father's Day dinner... (pictured above)

When God Gives us Spiritual Cookies

We all have trials in our lives. Some seem small and trivial, some big, and others even BIGGER.

We can liken those trials and circumstances in our lives to a chocolate chip cookie.

Personally, I don't like to eat flour all by itself. I don't know of anyone who will eat it by the spoonful. Ick!  Flour is our big trial, it's definitely not fun to go through. We wouldn't willingly choose to go through it. I have never heard someone say, "Oh pick me, PICK ME!!! I haven't been through a good trial in a while!" No.one.ever.

As well as baking soda, raw eggs, salt, butter.... Each of these ingredients are not the tastiest things to eat by themselves. Just like those seemingly small trials in our lives. Small but they definitely don't taste the greatest in our mouths by themselves.

Then, we have my favorite part, the sugar and chocolate chips! These are the joys and triumphs of a Christian's life. The laughter, victories, growth, new converts...these are happy/joyful things and taste so delicious in our mouths! We could feast on these all the time!

Yet, when you put all those ingredients together, even all the seemingly gross tasting things, it is even better than all of them separately! The trials and struggles of our lives added to the joy and triumphs, God makes this awesome cookie out of it. No, those trials (flour, baking soda, raw eggs, salt, butter..) were not fun to go through and definitely not the best things to be tasting. Yet, you cannot have a yummy chocolate chip cookie without them.

God has a wonderful way of making all the hard times in our lives to something truly beautiful in the end. We just have to wait for Him to complete His perfect will in those situations.

~Hebrews 13:21~
"Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen."

So, whether you have a heaping plate of flour today, or a bowl full of chocolate chips. Rejoice in the fact that God has an amazing chocolate chip cookie in the making.

From generation to generation

Every family has their different things they pass down from generation to generation.

I think every family has stories, lots and lots of stories.

Before my grandpa passed away last year, I remember a time when we were sitting on the bed and he brought in the few old pictures that he had kept from the years.

We would ask, "Who is this?", then he would go into their story and how they are our great-great-great relative.

Actually, one of my ancestores was the nanny (or something similiar) to 'Bloody Mary', I found that out on that day. Nothing to be really proud of, but interesting none-the-less.

I have heard many, many stories from my grandparents/parents/aunts/uncles, I hope I never ever forget them.

One thing that has been passed down in my family is recipes.

On my mom's side, it is biscuits and gravy, very southern :) I grew up on this for breakfast, especially when all the cousins would get together. Oh and I can't forget chocolate gravy...Mmmm!!

On my dad's side, there are a few recipes that have been passed down, one of them is butterhorns. Grandma Waldron has made these yummies for years, then dad started making them for us, and yesterday I made them for the first time!

For now, I'm just gonna listen and soak it all up. Lord willing, someday I will be in their shoes telling the stories, sharing the recipes, and passing on the traditions to my kids and grandkids :)
